Chapter Twenty-Three

Ezekiel

Raegel climbed into the cave barely out of breath. His brown with green eyes studied the cave we hadn’t set foot in for over two hundred years, before his gaze rested on me. He didn’t waste words and at times barely spoke. He waited for me to tell him whatever it was he needed to know.

“One of the vampires I selected for my unit has magical abilities,” I shared with him. For Raegel to help me, he needed as much information as possible.

His eyebrows rose, but that was his only reaction.

“Her touch prevents Ophelia from reaching me in dream state. For the past week, I’ve slept without her violating touch. She hasn’t been able to drain me or activate the curse.”

The muscles in Raegel’s jaw bunched, his brow furrowing. “Do you think she can break the curse?”

I shrugged because I had no idea. The curse affected each of us in various ways. Mine was through feeding, the others were controlled by Ophelia through different desires. She held our balls in her grimy hands, gripped them in a punishing grasp when we displeased her.

“All I know is when Ilana touches me then Ophelia can’t.”

His eyes bored into my mine with an intensity that felt like he was trying to find answers without words. “How did you discover this?”

“I saw a magical shield surround her when a Lycan attacked, so I pulled her from training. Addison convinced me to hide her so she could study her magic—I told you all, she’s been tracking magic users for years. Long story short, she heard me having a nightmare as Ophelia was mind raping me and when she touched me to wake me up, she broke the connection.”

Raegel folded his arms across his chest, making the tattoos on his biceps bulge with menace. He leaned against the cave wall and sighed. “This is either a blessing or a curse.”

I waited for him to elaborate.

“It is a blessing because Ophelia cannot reach you when she is with you. It is a curse because it brought her to your border.”

“About that…” I took a deep breath, because Raegel would not be happy. “Ilana sees our realms in different coloured foliage.”

His head canted to the side and his brow wrinkled in confusion.

“The vampire realm had crimson leaves, mine purple, and your realm is green. She identified an area of blackness between our border. We’ve been studying the anomaly for a few days to determine what it is.”

Raegel pushed himself off the wall, his pointed ears flaring back against his head.

“Ophelia has a base that lies on the border between our two kingdoms. She’s using it to hide herself in the void area and syphon energy from our realms.”

Murderous rage flooded Raegel’s dark changeable eyes. He was always so calm and collected until something flicked his switch and activated the crazed psychotic murderer. He definitely looked like that switch was short-circuiting right now.

“I fucking hate that bitch.” He sneered, his fangs sliding down.

“We both do,” I agreed, rubbing my hands over my face.
